My base shade in my manicure is Barry M’s Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Papaya, a pretty peach almost salmon creme with superb gel like gloss and finish. One of my favourite Gelly Hi-Shine shades from the range, this is an ideal colour for Spring & Summer! I decided to pop this on my nails to brighten up my hands!
I’m a long time lover of Barry M’s Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints! This range are one of my favourite budget gel look polish formulas to pick up. From the ranges vast array of shades, with seasonal additions to the core line and deals and offers on these polishes fairly frequently, you just cannot go wrong. Perfect to pick up when funds are low and you need a polish pick me up!
I have so many of these Gelly Hi-Shine shades in my collection and I do really like the formula, its very smooth and easy to apply, very pigmented and dries reasonably quickly. I get decent coverage with this formula too, even the paler shades are fully opaque in 2 coats which is excellent for the price point. I also appreciate the longevity of the formula, I can get up to a weeks wear using this formula depending on how hard I am on my hands, even longer if I top up my top coat.
Anyhoo I was playing around, thinking of ways to jazz up my manicure, so I decided to use my dotting tool and add some dots giving a polka dot manicure.
This nail look is very reminiscent of Dior’s Milky Dots look, using the Confetti’s shades as the basis of my manicure colours today. They are not dead on matches but fairly similar shades. This look is so easy to recreate without buying the duos – all you need is a dotting tool and polish shades to get this high end polish look at home!
The shade I decided to use for my polka dots is Barry M’s Matte Nail Paint in Copacabana Red from their Matte Nail Paint range.
This bright red shade is really zingy and is an almost neon, it’s matte formula softens it’s finish, but topped with glossy top coat this shade really pop’s on the hands or toes! Beautiful! This shade was made for holidays in a mani or pedi! I came across this shade going through my stash whilst looking for a hot coral toned red and this shade called to me. I’ll be honest I forgot about this polish shade, it’s an oldie but a goodie!
I think the matte formula of the Copacabana Red shade makes the dots stand out even more! Maybe it’s my eyes but I think it does make a slight difference.
I don’t think Barry M’s Matte Nail Paint range get’s alot of attention or is blogged about too often these days (this range is one of their older formulas from their current polish formula line up.) The Matte Nail Paint polish range does have some real beaut polishes too, classic neutral shades that are perfect for everyday wear (very similar to some of Essie’s Cashmere Matte shades.) There is also some lovely bright almost neons too, like my red used today in my NOTD. A pretty mix of shades depending on your polish mood.
I like to wear this red shade on it own, with and without top coat, as both looks I like. With it’s matte polish formula it dries pretty quickly, making a perfect shade to pop on your nails when you are in a rush and trying to get out the door. This shade in particular is my speediest drying red in my collection!
It also has a tough wear time too, I easily get 5 days plus in my manicure with this polish formula, only showing tip wear by day 5 with top coat, which is pretty good going. Without top coat I get on average around 4 days without tip wear/chipping.
Overall I really like my polka dot mani, I may even get more creative with my dotting tool and nail art kit when I get chance. See what I can come up with!
