OPI keep their polish collections coming thick and fast, and this latest one celebrates the colourful spirit of New Orleans with their OPI New Orleans Spring 2016 Nail Polish Collection.
Taking inspiration from the Big Easy – New Orleans, this polish collection mirrors the city’s mix in culture, be it food, music, night time debauchery and general lust for life, all these polishes showcase the city’s unique spirit.
Altogether there are twelve shades in this collection, a wonderful mix of bright shades, they are described as ‘reminiscent of savory herbs, soulful blues, vibrant flora and ornate architecture; all against a backdrop of lush greenery.’ Ooo I say!
As soon as I saw the press release for this collection, I knew I wanted to see these polishes in person! And they do not disappoint, a wonderfully bright array of shades that are perfect for Spring! Other than one metallic shade, the majority of these shades are bright jelly crèmes, not a glitter to be seen!
Anyway enough of my spiel, onto the shades!
Take A Right On Bourbon – a platinum/white gold metallic
Let me Bayou A Drink – a pale baby pink shimmer shot creme
Humidi-Tea – a shimmery peach nude with slight micro shimmer running through it
Crawfishin’ For A Compliment – a peachy orange creme
Got Myself Into A Jam-balaya! – a coral peach creme
Suzi Nails New Orleans – a warm mid pink creme
She’s A Bad Muffuletta! – a deep bright coral creme
Spare Me A French Quarter – a plum toned raspberry creme
I Manicure For Beads – a warm toned grape creme
Show Us Your Tips! – a lilac/periwinkle creme with silver shimmer!
Rich Girls & Po- Boys – a warm toned mid blue creme
I’m So Swamped – a light grassy green creme
My Thoughts on the Collection
I really like this collection! I feel some of the shades are fairly unique polishes, which I will add to my own collection to fill my polish holes (if you catch my drift.)
However looking at them a bit more closely, I noticed some shades looked extremely similar to colours from OPI’s recent Brazil and Hawaii collections. Something you may need to consider if you own shades from those previous collections.
My favourite shades from OPI’s New Orleans Collection has got to be Got Myself Into A Jam-balaya, Show Us Your Tips and She’s A Bad Muffuletta!
I love these three, especially Show Me Your Tips! – this would be my number 1, these 3 shades I will be investing in! I do have a soft spot for I’m So Swamped! I love a good bold green and this shade. I feel I would need to make sure this suited my own skin tone before picking up.
*UPDATE* I checked out the BeautyGeek’s post on the OPI New Orleans Spring 2016 Nail Polish Collection yesterday and noted my dupe fears were founded. Not only did this collection dupe shades from their previous collections, but it also featured other dupes I already owned.
This has made me change my mind on some of the shades I had favoured originally, so I ammended my choices. I was sad there wasn’t as many original shades as I had hoped and I really changed my mind on some of shades for this reason, I practically already owned the same shade from other brands.
The OPI New Orleans Collection Polishes retail at £12.50 each and are available now! You can purchase the collection online at OPI UK and Amazon and they are available for pre-order at Nail Polish Direct.
