If you have been following the Nail Buff blog for a while now, you will have noticed my love for budget polish picks. I think that’s how most peoples love for polish begins!
I always think if you can get a good polish formula or shade, without paying the earth, why not pick it up! I always find myself whilst out and about nipping into pharmacies, chemists and general ‘drugstores’, to see what new glossy nails from the drugstore I can get my mitts on for next to nothing, especially if they are on offer too!
Recently I came across a handful of drugstore polish lines which I have really enjoyed trying out and using and thought why not share them with you today.
A recent drugstore discovery was L’oreal’s new Color Riche L’Huille Nail Polishes, which caught my eye in February whilst doing some Airport shopping before I flew home. I hadn’t seen them before, intrigued I decided to pick up a few shades to test out the line.
This range only launched in UK and Ireland drugstores this last month, so I went in for a second dip and picked up a few more shades as I enjoyed the formula that much.
The range has 22 shades, in a variety of different colours and the packaging is beautiful with a stylish cut glass designed bottle, they look extremely aesthetically pleasing on your dressing table.
As the name suggest they are infused with precious oils, adding nourishment to the nails and the polishes are richly pigmented packing a punch even on the first coat.
My favourite notable shades from the range are 666 Vert Absynthe – a creamy Khaki, 334 Violet De Nuit – a deep indigo, 224 Rose Ballet – a pale blush , 552 Rubis Folies – a deep ruby red and 668 Bleu Royale – a true royal blue.
These polishes are currently retailing at £4.99 each, although they are on a 3 for 2 offer at Boots, perfect if you want to pick up a selection of shades.
Rimmel’s latest polish launch of their Super Gel 2 step polish system, using natural light curing method, gives a gel like finish and and a longer wear time. There has been a flurry of daylight curing gel polishes on the market within the last year or so, I was interested if this formula had brought anything new to the table.
This seems to be a standard daylight curing gel formula, with up to 14 days of wear with easy removal with your normal polish remover. I had seen these polishes previewed in various press for the last month or so and decided it was time to pick them up.
The 2 step system comprises of a gel colour and top coat, directing you to apply two coats of gel colour then finishing with gel top coat, to seal in the colour. I was also pleased some of the Salon Pro Kate Moss range shades were now also included in this formula.
For me the Super Gel polish had an excellent application with the thick tapered brush, making for a swift application and the end result of an almost wet look gloss for a true gel look manicure. A great first impression of this range, I definitely plan to pick up more shades!
For me of the 20 shades available in this line, my favourite shades were Soul Session – a glossy brown toned nude, Perfect Posy – a glossy orange toned peach, Blue Baby – a glossy baby blue, Happily Evie After – a glossy red toned orange and Dahling Dahlia – a glossy pink toned red.
The Rimmel Super Gel colour polishes and top coat are priced at £5.99 each, with a deal of buy one get one half price currently at Boots if you want to check it out!
With even just these 2 polish lines I am loving, I know I will be distracted next time I hit up Boots or Superdrug, probably struggling to decide which other shades to pick up next!
What are your thoughts on these new glossy nail ranges from the Drugstore? Any shades you would recommend? Any other lines you could recommend from the ‘drugstore’?

On a completely different note, if you are after a Springy green, do try and pick up Barry M’s nail paint polish in Green Berry, perfect for #teal tips!
I only found out recently my favourite drugstore turquoised toned green shade is actually helping aid the charity Ovacome – the Ovarian Cancer Support charity.
Barry M will be donating 50% of their online sales of their Green Berry nail paint in February and March to Ovacome, to help beat ovarian cancer before the end of March.
Please spread the word of the campaign by posting pictures of yourself wearing the official #teal tips colour in an Nail-fie on Facebook and Twitter and nominating a friend to do likewise.
You can also make donations (if you’re in the UK) by texting OVAC00 followed by the amount (e.g. OVAC00 £5) to 70070.
By supporting Barry M’s + Ovacome campaign for #TealTips, we can raise awareness of the diseases symptoms and get the word out to get behind this charity’s good work.
