Subscription style beauty boxes are big business these days, between Etsy, Birchbox and Glossybox to more nail inspired boxes from Nailbox and Colouristiq, the market is brimming with them. I like the idea of these boxes, getting a handful of products to sample and try, a nice edit of classic products and new releases.
I am quite late to this bandwagon, but I do enjoy receiving Nail Mail, or polishes through the post. I have been following a few English nail polish bloggers who had sampled these polish box delights, I felt it was time to do a bit of my own investigation to see if this subscription box lark is for me.
The latest Polish box on the market is MeeBox, a UK based nailcare and polish based subscription service, set up by 3 friends who enjoyed nail polish and nail art.
Meebox’s are a £20 a month nail product based subscription service, the box price covers all postage and packaging. No hidden fees, all costs included, which is a relief to hear!
The MeeBox philosophy is all about quality, priding themselves on being the best at choosing colours and brands to compliment each month’s theme.
Each MeeBox theme has been inspired by the wide world around us, so expect the unexpected – each box being unique! On the 1st of every month, the theme of the Meebox will be announced on their website, without giving away what the contents of the box will be.
Last months theme was a nautical style theme, named Hello Sailor! With the shades chosen and nail art accessories is was just perfect!
The previous California Dreamin, a groovy laid back summer vibe with bold and vibrant shades! Really lovely!
Launched since August this year, the two MeeBox themes I have looked up online looked interesting, included lovely polish shades, nail care and nail art accessories. For me the highlight was they were perfectly suited to work and wear well together. You could get a decent look out of this box no problem! You only need to look at the pictures to realise this. I hope the boxes remain in this ideal format!
MeeBox’s have featured brands like Nails Inc, Color Club, CND and Models Own to name but a few, along with nail art tools and nailcare products. Altogether in each MeeBox there is 4-5 nail products every month, including nail polishes, tools and treatments.
MeeBox Customers have until 22nd of every month to subscribe and place their orders, providing they have not sold out. MeeBox’s are sent by a tracked Hermes courier shortly after this time.
The good thing about these boxes is the subscription can be cancelled at anytime up until the 22nd of the month, perfect if you do not like the theme!
Subscription options include one box at £20 a month or 3 months for £54. Discounts are available on longer term subscriptions.
I myself personally would not pay £20 for one box, especially if there were no guarantees on the amount of quality products or overall value of the box.
I must admit even for £54 for 3 months, I am extremely hesitant. I think you would need to look at your spending habits for polish and nail art products, if you would spend the subscription cost total within that time frame, it may be worth it. At the same time I also keep thinking I hate accumulating products and polishes I would never use and wear, something you would also have to consider if setting up a subscription.
The subscriptions are billed on the 1st of every month, keeping it nice and simple for your personal banking. You can manage your MeeBox subscription any time by logging into your MeeBox account which is set up once to set up your Meebox.
MeeBox’s are currently only available within the United Kingdom at the moment, but if you’re subscribed to their email newsletter, you’ll be the first to know if that changes.
Sad for me based in Ireland, but luckily I am able to have these boxes sent to my home in the UK if I desire. I can the either pop back over and get them or have them brought over here by family when they visit. Still not the best scenario, but at least I can try them.
I always feel annoyed for everyone living here in Ireland when pretty much most things in the UK are free P&P over a certain value, but here it costs so much more for everything in Euro’s plus with expensive P&P. There is always Parcel Motel for that I guess.
Grrrrr, it really annoys me! I still compare prices even though I have been here nearly a year!
Cost wise, It’s pricier than Nailbox (£5 more per individual box if you’re choosing a month to month subscription) although for an annual subscription is £13.50, for roughly the same sort of content.
Both these boxes I feel are extremely similar, it’s difficult to tell which is the best value for money in the long run. You would need to try these for a longer period to see the overall value averaged out per box.
I imagine, if you are looking for higher end nailcare and nail products this box may not be for you. I would keep your money and have a few indulgent polish splurges.
I feel if I was 10 years younger, more young and impressionable this would be perfect for me. I am trying not to be too much of a granny about this product. I feel I am not its target market, even if I do enjoy nail polish and nail art from time to time.
I think I will have to try these for an extended period, see how I find them and report back. If I am honest, I fear I wouldn’t be fussed with box themes and some of the nail art products within the boxes may be wasted on me! I will still try however, for a few months at least!
MeeBox’s are currently available at www.meebox.co.uk, where you can find more about exact price plans, the current themes and availability.
