Greige, a perfect mix of grey and beige has been a staple in fashion and colour for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I remember seeing a lot of clothing and home interiors being that shade in the late 80’s and early 90’s and today it has grown up to be a much more sophisticated palette of shades. Apparently Giorgio Armani was “the king of greige,” Harper’s Bazaar recalls, yet greige has become a constant in high fashion, a classic colour in every designers armour. It was after the launch of Chanel’s Particuliere nail polish in 2010, the shade was cemented into the core of every fashion lovers nail polish stash. The greige spectrum has evolved since then, pretty much every nail polish range has it’s greige type shades and updates them depending on the current polish trends of the time. In fact it was Bobbi Brown’s New Greige inspired line that pushed me to write this post, discussing all the best Greige Nail Polish shades, so you too will have greige like putty in your hands!
Greige is unfathomably the hottest neutral, if you want to pick up Chanel’s creation Particuliere that would be a good starting point but there are so very many shades of beige toned grey. For the price alone of a Chanel polish you could pick up quite a few dupes or variation of greige shades.
Barry M has a perfect budget option with their shade Mushroom, just a lovely dark greige nail polish. No7’s Gel Hi-Shine polish in Porcini is a lovely glossy lighter greige polish shade, just beautiful on the nail with a lovely finish. Keep an eye out for mushroomy taupes and darker greiges as these shades most brands produce.
The Catrice shade Greige! The New Beige is a deep warm toned greige which is an absolute steal from the pharmacy if you can find it. I find myself spending more and more time checking them out in store.
Essie have an lovely array of greige shades, my favourites Chinchilly, Master Plan, Mink Muffs and Take It Outside are truly greige nail polish shades, and great additions to your collection.
Revlon’s Colorstay Gel Envy polish in Bare Bones is a brilliant pick if you can still find it and is also good quality for the price point.
Two classic shades in a great formula are Porchester Square and Colville Mews (below in that order) from Nails Inc. These two in the gel effect formula are probably my most worn greige nail polish shades which are beautiful on and last well.
Another Greige Nail Polish favourite is Deborah Lippmann’s polish in Waking Up in Vegas, which Lady Gaga famously wore on the cover of Vanity Fair. It looks divine in her manicure pictured below!
OPI’s polish in Do you know Jacques? along with Butter London’s Fash Pack are beautiful higher quality polishes to try.
Bobbi Brown’s new Greige and Smoky Topaz nail polishes left me dangling/drooling at the beauty counter, my boyfriend had to drag me away for my own bank balance health as they were so very pretty!
Another greige caught my eye on screen whilst watching Trainwreck, Amy Schumer’s new movie. Amy wore a lovely greigey toned polish throughout the entire film which got me thinking what was it. Stumbled onto Allure’s website and there is was the answer to my prayers, Alaina from Julep was the polish which I am now on the hunt for.
Ciate are one of my favourite brands for muted neutral tones which also include those greige shades. Iced Frappe, Cream Tea and Fade to Greige (below in that order) are all perfect greige polishes, although if you wanted a more deeper, lighter or brighter greige they have so many shades which tone in well with whatever greige nail polish look you are after.
Well there you have it, the greige colour story, so many beige grey tones to try which will look amazing on pretty much everyone. If you have never tried a greige shade before please do, you will be surprised, I know I was! See what greige nail polish shades work for your own skintone and give it a try.
