Since last month’s theme of drugstore and budget nails on the blog, one release I have been dying to check out and write about came in the form of Sunrise Trip 683 nail gloss from Chanel’s L.A. Sunrise Spring 2016 release.
I had seen the press release of this collection in late November, so when this polish hit counters in the New Year, I made the effort to check out my nearest Chanel counter.
This nail gloss is a true dark blue, almost indigo/ violet blurple shade. The nail gloss is definately a jelly formula which is very sheer. Looking into the bottle, even at counters in bright light, you can see how jelly like this polish is. It almost reminded me of their Vert Obscur shade, you can only really tell it’s true colour in bright light.
As you apply each coat it darkens slightly. I found with 3 coats I was able to get the true bottle shade. I am generally not keen on jelly formulas, I did find I had to be careful with application to ensure minimal streaking and left plenty of time betweens coats to avoid bubbling on the nail. I had read other posts saying to be careful with application, which was lucky or my manicure could have been a real mess!
I am generally not keen on Chanel’s brush type either, I have quite wide nail beds, but for thinner nail beds this polish would probably work a treat!
Although not a classic Spring shade, I do like this colour alot! I have similar ‘blurple’/ indigo shades in my collection which are much easier to apply and would last longer in my usual manicure.
However I found, like a lot of Chanel polishes, this polish didn’t have the greatest wear time, even with my usual base and top coat! This jelly type formula from Chanel is the worst for chipping, but I love the gloss in this formula, it really is supreme!
I think if I chose to wear this in future, I would use it with my Ciate Geltox nail system, to ensure it lasted at least a week on my nails. I feel this colour would look excellent in a negative space manicure or a all or nothing manicure. A bold hint of colour in these mani styles would really work!
The Chanel L.A. Sunrise Spring 2016 is now available from Chanel counters and the Sunrise Trip 683 nail polish is priced at £18.00. Please visit Chanel’s website where your can locate your nearest Chanel stockist.
